Blackmores Bio ACE Excell Cap X 150
Blackmores Bio ACE Excell: clinically proven antioxidant formula designed to decrease stress to the body from excess free radicals. Pollutants, sun, stress, alcohol, cigarette smoke and some medications can cause our bodies to produce these potentially harmful chemicals. Antioxidants are nutrients that reduce the risk of cell damage attributed to free radicals.
Features and benefits
- A potent combination of vitamins, minerals and herbal antioxidants to more effectively combat free radicals than single antioxidants used on their own
- Includes grape seed and an organic form of selenium which is more easily utilised by the body than inorganic selenium
- Helps to reduce the risk of cell damage due to free radicals
- Helps to maintain healthy arteries
- Helps to reduce oxidation of LDL-cholesterol
- Helps to protect the liver against harmful toxins
How it works
- Antioxidants act as 'free-radical scavengers'. Free radicals are common in the body, arising through a variety of mechanisms. Some are generated in the body as part of normal energy-producing processes, some are generated by pollutants such as air pollution, and some are generated by lifestyle factors such as excess dietary fats, cigarette smoke, and alcohol ingestion. Many of these free radicals are dealt with by the body's own free radical, antioxidant defences. Some free radicals however escape these defences, and tend to accumulate. Research suggests that this accumulation of free radicals can result in cellular damage.
- Multiple, complementary antioxidants can be more effective than large amounts of a single antioxidant. The nutrients contained in Bio ACE Excell work together to enhance free radical scavenging properties.
- Vitamins C and E are well documented for their powerful antioxidant activity and are the subject of clinical trials worldwide. They are combined here with betacarotene (another powerful antioxidant which may be indicated where there is a dietary deficiency of vitamin A), and zinc (which has an antioxidant role in the skin, where it is involved in the functions of wound healing and normal oil gland function).
- The vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid are included due to their essential role in the metabolism of the amino acid homocysteine.
- Selenium is an essential trace element for the formation of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which acts as the body's final defence against hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxides in the cell membrane (a common site of free radical damage). In the immune system, selenium is involved in protecting white blood cells from free radical damage and also appears to increase the production of antibodies.
- Grape seeds contain catechin polymers called oligomeric procyanidins (commonly known as OPCs), which are highly bioavailable and powerful antioxidants, appearing to be both complementary to and synergistic with vitamins (in particular they protect and complement the free radical scavenging effect of vitamin C). Grape seed extract assists in the maintenance of peripheral circulation and capillary integrity. Milk Thistle has a protective effect on the cell membrane, mediated by a strong free radical scavenging and antioxidant action. It assists in detoxification processes in the liver by increasing the activity of super oxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase.
